The Maryland Department of Transportation oversees the Maryland Transportation Authority, the Maryland Transit Administration, the Maryland Port Administration, the State Highway Administration, the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration and the Maryland Aviation Administration.

This bond was to be issued to fund the Consolidated Transportation Program. The Consolidated Transportation Program is Maryland's capital budget for transportation projects. The Capital Program includes major and minor projects for the Maryland Department of Transportation and the modal agencies and related authorities within the Department. Working together with Maryland's citizens, local jurisdictions and the local and State delegations, projects that preserve transportation system investments, enhance transportation services and expand transportation opportunities throughout the State are added to the CTP.
