The Jay Gould Mining Company was incorporated in Montana with offices located in Helena. The company had operations in the Spokane area of Washington, which included the Jay Gould, Jay Gould #2 and the Drumlummon claims.

The company also had operations in the Helena area, which were purchased by the Standard Silver-Lead MIning Company of Spokane in 1937. In the 1880s, Helena operation was a banner producer, providing stock holders with some of the most generous dividends in Montana. Dividends reached $60,000 per month at one point, and totaled over $1,000,000 during the life of the claim.
