The Honorable Elisha David Standiford, M.D., the company’s founder, has signed this piece as the company President. Born in 1831, Standiford was a graduate of the Kentucky School of Medicine and noted agriculturist. He was President of the Grand River Ironworks, Louisville Car-Wheel Company, Farmers’ and Drovers’ Bank, the Louisville and Nashville Railroad, and the Louisville Bridge Company. A member of the Louisville Board of Education, Standiford was a State senator, U.S. congressman, and a candidate for U.S. senate when he died in 1887.

The call letters for Louisville International Airport (SDF) stand for Standiford Field. The airport was named after Standiford after his family donated most of the land on which the airport was built.
